All pcs in my lan run the NTP daemon reference implementation. The one connect to the 'outside' (the one with the internet connection) can be reached using the NTP protocol as well as the standard 'daytime' (13) and 'time' (37) TCP ports on address ntp.vanheusden.com. It is also part of the NTP pool - a project which tries to deliver a trustworthy to all computers on the internet.
The setup
Hardware
pc 1 ('mauer') serving time to the internet:
Intel quadcore running at 2.4GHz
Intel DG965WH motherboard
Internet connection: Intel Corporation 82566DC gigabit ethernet adapter (integrated in motherboad)
Connection to LAN: National Semiconductor Corporation DP83820 10/100/1000 ethernet adapter
DCF77 receiver by Gude (Expert mouseCLOCK), connected via an Timedia Technology Co Ltd PCI2S550 (Dual 16550 UART) RS232 board
pc 2 ('belle') on the LAN:
Intel dual core running at 2.4GHz
Gigabyte Technology 965G-DS3 motherboard
LAN connection: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169 gigabit ethernet adapter
pc 1 and 2 are connected to the internet via a 20Mb (down)/1Mb (up) ADSL connection (via a SpeedTouch 546 version 5.2.7.19.0), connection inbetween is a 3com (consumer) gigabit switch
the third pc ('thegate') syncs to the internet via the neighbour's internet-connection
VIA Nehemiah at 1GHz
EPIA-M motherboard
LAN connection: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II], connects to pc 1 and 2 via an Linksys WRT54G set-up as router (no NAT!)
WiFi connection Texas Instruments ACX 111 54Mbps (connection to neighbour)
MSF receiver (USB version) by Lindy (Lindy Precision Clock, I developer a driver for NTP which can be found here)
All pcs are peering to each other.
